More Misery For Morning Musume

So what’s the deal with Morning Musume recently? Are they really fading deeper into obscurity? Are those rumours of the end of H!P finally upon us after all these years of speculation? Or am I finally just being sucked into the bandwagon of fail that is the fact it’s the cool thing to do to say that Momusu are finished?

In all honest I just don’t know, though I can’t help but feel that there is considerably more gloom around Momusu recently, especially after Kimagure Princess and its terrible sales figures.

In case you’re not sure of what they were they ranked in at number 4 on Oricon for the first week with a total of 36,274 (or so says Wikipedia). Now for many fans this is another thing to add to the list of ever growing concerns, but for me it’s actually quite a bright spot. You see that figure isn’t that far off the recent sales figures that they’ve been achieving and of course, well know that the naysayers will insist that that is simply because they are getting weaker and weaker, in reality what needs to be faced up to is the fact that they’re never going to be in the position they were nine years ago or so.

After all the gloom that seemed to be surrounding Kimagure Princess I was sort of relieved that there wasn’t such a massive loss in sales figures after all. In fact I’d say that most people would have said the same things they’re saying now about the failings of the band if the last two singles hadn’t charted so well; their position on Oricon is all that saved them that time and that was just getting lucky from the competition that week (or lack of).

If you’ve been living in a cave, or maybe just don’t actually like Morning Musume then here is the PV of the song for you. Though if the latter is the case I have no idea why you read on this far, moron.

The video was uploaded by nwzrPV .

Now personally I like the song, it appeals to the side of me that loves the crazy side of H!P. Okay so it isn’t as cracktastic as some of the shit they made in the past (Hana wo puun springs to mind) but they’re going for something a bit different and that instantly scores points in my book. It was especially pleasing for me to see this pop up now as I hated the last two singles as they were dull as dishwater JPop.

Now we come to the problem: the Japanese don’t like different. A pretty broad statement and a bold one at that, I can admit, but recent evidence seems to show that that’s true. I find it very hard to distinguish between a lot of the “poprock” bands out there in Japan at the moment and idol groups seem to be suffering the same fate. It’s been obvious for some years that they’re just not the thing to do anymore and that is why AKB has managed to be successful by simply targeting the niche market that will buy their stuff; and because of that they’ve picked up some extra fans along the way. Just look at any of the singles since AKB have signed to King Records; they all sound identical in almost every way, don’t try anything new or different and suddenly they rise to super stardom. I for one wasn’t shocked that River did well. I admit that I was shocked by the sheer scale of it but the marketing was perfect for it and it was always going to be a winner destined for the number one spot.

Since switching over to the dark side (AKB) I don’t feel any joy from seeing Momusu fail; of course I love seeing AKB do so well and especially for an idol group and it’s just bad luck that it helps pile misery onto Morning Musume. I can’t say I was exactly upset with seeing how badly they fared with Kimagure but I was brightened up to see that there are still fans out there who hold out hope for them. Hey, it’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it.

The TanaKame blog has recently uploaded a video stating their admiration for the girls and their ability to put in a massive amount of effort for their shows here and I for one was happy to see that the fandom still burns strongly for some of us. Now if only the UFA management would take note of the true fans and actually try catering to them rather than trying to do the impossible and be loved by everyone.

luv-angelz doesn’t quite share the same optimism but then once again we see that the source of this is these supposed poor sales of Kimagure Princess. If Morning Musume fans want any words of consolidation it’s this: no matter how you dress it up, whether it be number one spots or travelling to America, Morning Musume or only doing as badly now as they have done for the past four or five years. Granted there has even been a steady decrease since then but that’s true for the entire music industry.

So in conclusion? Maybe I was too hasty in spelling out the doom of the biggest selling female act in Japan’s history, but I still hold a reservation or two…or three or four…..

Kojima Haruna 1st Photobook Previews

Well now, it seemed that Kojiharu was getting quite a lot of attention of love recently and as much as I love the girl I wasn’t exactly sure as to why such a fuss was being made of her now. However, with previews of her new PB being released I think I’m starting to follow the trend myself.

It came out on November 6th and you can buy it from Amazon or Yesasia . I’d go with Yesasia myself as they’ve never given me trouble like Amazon have in the past…though this time a lack of funds means I’ll be missing out altogether.

No doubt this looks like it could be the PB of the year or perhaps even in known memory from the way things are shaping up, if you don’t believe me then just take a look at some of the preview pictures below.

I can’t really find a bad picture amongst them but I think that my favourite out of them all deserves to be all on its own just because it is that damn good.

Fallout from Fallout

Bad pun I know, sorry. Actually I’m not as you’ll probably soon realise that this place will be full of them.

Playing Fallout 3 almost constantly for the last few days has got the Galaxy News Radio songs stuck in my head, even the ones I didn’t like at first. One stand out track has to be Butcher Pete (Part 1) by Roy Brown. More than a slight hint at a euphemism in there that if you don’t get you really need someone to go V.A.T.S. on your ass.

Hey everybody, did the news get around
About a guy named Butcher Pete
Oh, Pete just flew into this town
And he’s choppin’ up all the women’s meat

He keeps hackin’ and wackin’ and smackin’
He keeps hackin’ and wackin’ and smackin’
He keeps hackin’ and wackin’ and smackin’
He just hacks, wacks, choppin’ that meat

Butcher Pete’s got a long sharp knife
He starts choppin’ and don’t know when to stop
All you fellas gotta watch your wives
‘Cause Pete don’t care whose meat he chops

Ever since Pete flew into town
He’s been havin’ a ball
Just cuttin’ and choppin’ for miles around
Single women, married women, old maids and all

Wakes up in the morning, half past five
Chops from sunrise to sunset
I don’t see how he stays alive
Meat’s gonna be the death of ole Pete yet

The police put Pete in jail
Yes, he finally met his fate
But when they came to pay his bail
They found him choppin’ on his cell mate

That Butcher Pete is a crazy man
Tries to chop down the wind and the rain
Just hacks on anything he can get
Say, turn this record over, you ain’t heard nothing yet

AKB48 2010 Calendars – Let the RAGE begin

It may not be a very good way to kick things off but I need to have a moment of RAGE, with a bit of anxiety thrown in for good measure. Maybe you know what’s coming but I’ll say it anyway…

Why the hell are there no Takamina calendars for 2010?!?!

She’s one of the most popular girls in the group and, while it pains me to admit it, she’s not the best looking the group has to offer, but does her lack of a chest department really have to leave her so shunned? I’m sure she could manage to shift a fair few calendars if she had one; I mean come on Watarirouka Hashiritai? Fujie Reina and Chikano Rina? What’s with that shit? As great as AKB’s marketing people are it goes to show how dumb they can be at times too; Fujie proved she wasn’t getting over with the fans by not making it into the Senbatsu for IIwake maybe and yet they continue to push her and push her, if they keep going at this rate she’s gonna fall off the edge of the planet any day soon. And yet where does this leave Takamina? To rot in the gutter that’s where.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against Reina, in fact I don’t think there’s enough of a personality there to hate. It’s not her I’m really RAGING at though, it’s the idiots who can’t seem to understand my pain by knowing that another year will pass and my urge will once again be unfulfilled.

So enough of the RAGE, onto the anxiety.

This little predicament left with a truly testing choice: whose calendar to buy? Well Morning Musume made it to the top of the list two years ago but they’ve done nothing to reinvigorate themselves to me and last year’s Maimai calendar showed off plenty more skin so they were already down in the pecking order. So who’s it going to be?

Maeda Atsuko – The face, no way can I get this one. Buying this would be like getting “Gerrard” on the back of a Liverpool shirt: it’s just mainstream for me man.

Kojima Haruna – Yes please, but at the same time something doesn’t feel quite right. After seeing the recent previews of Haruna’s PB I have more “respect” for her than I did before but still, something is putting me off and I can’t figure out what it is.

Itano Tomomi – I was going to order Itano’s last year but when I saw yesasia was out of stock for like three days I panicked and bought Maimai’s on impulse. I didn’t exactly regret the decision but it made me sad when I saw the Itano preview’s.

Kasai Tomomi – Another one which made it onto the nearly list last year but fell at the last hurdle. Another one I have great “respect” for, especially after seeing her in person; prettiest person I’ve seen IRL hands down.

Ono Erena – Why Erepyon, why? I can say that Erena is pretty without feeling too weird or creepy but seriously, I love Erena but hate having pictures of 15 year old girls on my wall (not exactly speaking from experience…oh wait, yes I am). Having Momusu pictures with different members on softens the blow because of the lgal ones but Erena up there on her own? Even I’m not gonna take the risk.

Sato Yukari – I feel sorrow for Yukarin, I really do. She can look so hot at times and so weird at others, but I’d bet good money that she’d look hot in her calendar pics and yet I haven’t given her a first though, never mind a second. I urge all of you to go out and buy it though to show that she is loved, just don’t expect me to do the same.

Oshima Yuko – Yuko has always been a bit of a BOBFOC* for me, mainly because she looks like the female version of a male friend of mine. She certainly isn’t hideous, but he is.

Miyazaki Miho – Mere months ago I never would have dreamed I’d be contemplating buying a Myao calendar, but she kicked my ass recently into showing me just how great she is. She has the same problem as Erena though, my heart says yes but my head says hell no.

Miyazawa Sae – What do I have against Sae? Nothing, that’s what. So why do I hate her pictures? I didn’t like her PB and I don’t really like her calendar either, yet I think she’s great and actually quite pretty. I.Don’t.Get.It.

Fujie Reina and Chikano Rina – Oh come on now, this is a joke right?

Watarirouka Hashiritai – I only really care for the cyborg here and even she isn’t cool enough to save the other three, let’s be honest and say that this would certainly be a wasted purchase for me.

Oshima Mai – Last year’s calendar was epic ain’t no doubt about that, but I’d much rather have one of a member that is actually still in the group. *Insert more why the hell isn’t Takamina here instead? RAGE here*

So the verdict?

This year Kasai is the lucky girl, and once again Itano is the unlucky one. I feel so bad the more I think about the fact that I flipped her off again but she’s a big girl and I’m sure she can take it on the Tomo-chin (Get it? No?) Once again though she was a victim of events beyond her control, I panicked once more and with a lack of Itano previews I went ahead and rushed myself into ordering Kasai’s. Hell I can’t say I’m unhappy with my choice as the previews look great, but poor baby Itano…

So who else has got one or has one on the way, and did you go through the same torment I did in deciding which one to get?

First Time

Another day another blog, or at least that’s the way it seems. I’m not going to go into some history lesson right now though as…well there wouldn’t be any point now would there? I don’t even feel the need to say that this is a new blog as you can see that for yourself by the fact that this is the first entry.

It’s probably safe to say that you found this blog by way of some Hello! Project or AKB related subject and if so this probably isn’t the entry you were directed to, but even with that in mind I’d like to say that I probably will bore you with other subjects during this blog. Don’t worry about hearing too much about my personal life though; I’m not quite that cruel.

With the rubbish out of the way I’d like to welcome you to this blog and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

A quick note, in case you hadn’t guessed there’s likely to be a lot of bias towards the wonder that I Takahashi Minami here so if that’s some sort of problem, unlucky.
